Reserve Deputy Information
The Garvin County Sheriff’s Reserve is a volunteer organization whose members serve the public without direct monetary compensation. The activities of the Reserves are under the direction of the Sheriff. The Sheriff may call upon the Reserve to perform its duties and activities at any time or under any conditions. Reserve deputies are sworn to protect life and property of the citizens of Garvin County.
All Reserve deputies are expected to serve with pride & integrity and are required to comply with the rules & regulations of the Reserve and the Sheriff’s Department. Each Reserve Deputy is expected to work a required minimum 8 hours per month.

The Garvin County Sheriff's Reserve is looking for men and women of good moral character to serve as Reserve Deputies for Garvin County. Interested individuals should complete an Application and return it to the Sheriff’s Office 201 W. Grant. Completed applications may also be mailed to the following address:

What Is a Reserve Deputy Sheriff?
Reserve Deputy Sheriffs enjoy the challenge and excitement offered by law enforcement, as well as the satisfaction of providing a worthwhile community service.
Reserve Deputy Sheriffs first complete the extensive state mandated training and then work assignments on evenings and/or weekends as their regular jobs permit.
Reserve Deputy Sheriffs have full peace officer powers when on duty, and if issued a CCW permit, may choose to carry a concealed weapon when off duty.
Reserve Deputy Sheriffs volunteer a minimum of 8 hours per month of their time.
Requirements:
1. Be at least 25 years of age, prior to certification as a deputy.
2. Be a United States citizen or in resident alien status, as defined by U.S. Immigration & Naturalization Service.
3. Must be a high school graduate or have GED certificate. (Minimum requirements)
4. Must not have been convicted in state or federal court for any felony, crime of moral turpitude, or a crime of domestic violence.
5. Must have fingerprint clearance from Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation before attending CLEET reserve academy.
6. Must have been administered an approved psychological examination and had same evaluated by a state licensed psychologist, and have an original affidavit from the psychologist attesting to the deputy's suitability for "employment as a peace officer" before attending CLEET reserve academy.
7. Must not have been involuntarily committed to an Oklahoma state mental institution.
What is the pay?
The Garvin County Reserve Deputy Association is a volunteer organization.
What training do you need?
Examination required for certification: Reserve peace officers must satisfactorily complete a minimum 160-hour CLEET (Council Law Enforcement Education Training) approved certification course and satisfactorily complete all practicum work and pass all written examinations required for certification.

For many of our Deputies, the reasons are:
1. To assist and support regular officers.
2. They enjoy the excitement
3. To help their community
4. They receive a sense of pride knowing that they belong to one of the finest Sheriff's Offices in the Country.
5. To know that they are a part of the "solution" not the "problem"
6. For others, it's a way to see if they want to embark on a career in law enforcement. Many law enforcement agencies hire their regular Deputies from those who have served as a Reserve Deputy.
Equipment qualifications:
Acceptable guns: Semi-Automatic double-action gun with law enforcement capacity magazines, 9mm or bigger. Glock brand is preferred. The sheriff or the sheriff’s designee must approve any other weapon.
Uniform, badge and miscellaneous equipment are needed.
