Garvin County was named for Samuel Garvin, a prominent Chickasaw Indian, Garvin County was once a part of the Chickasaw Nation, Indian Territory.
Garvin County is 813.66-square-miles. It is bordered by McClain, Pontotoc, Murray, Carter, Stephens and Grady counties. Incorporated towns are Pauls Valley, Elmore City, Lindsay, Maysville, Paoli, Stratford, and Wynnewood. Other towns in Garvin County include Erin Springs, Foster, Hennepin, Katie, and Pernell.
Interstate 35 and State Highways 74, 76, 77, and 177 run north and south inside the county, while State Highways 7, 17A, 19, 29, and 145 run east-west inside the county.
